“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Yeah! We finally made it to beautiful Saba and the exquisite Carolina Cottage. Wow!!! Everything and Everyday! We’re leaving in better shape thanks to spectacular daily hikes on Sandy Cruz Trail, through Hell’s Gate, Windwardside, the Bottom and back up Troy Hill for starters. The Bottom Trail and up to Mt. Scenery, and the Ladder twice. Hiking to the Bottom and back became routine. Our much needed time of relaxation just hanging around the pool or on the porch in the hammock was perfect. Especially with THE view! Oh, my! We’ve eaten delicious meals at all of the local restaurants… going home will be hard. Our last day included swimming in the ocean at the beach at Well’s Bay – what a treat.

Thanks, Bob and Beth Charlotte, NC

Your cottage was just as nice as we remembered it, when we were here briefly on our first visit to Saba in 2010, and you gave us a tour while we were staying at Queen’s Gardens. We loved the views, gardens, relaxing living room, and well-equipped kitchen. We spent our days hiking – Sandy Cruz to the Tidal Flats one day, Bottom Trail to Windwardside and back another day, Bottom Trail to Bud’s Mountain to Mt. Scenery and back another, PLUS the Ladder on our first day. We did one snorkel trip but want to come back as soon as we take our diver’s course back home. We will be back!

This place is great! We absolutely love it here. This is our third stay at the Carolina Cottage and during every stay we found something new to experience. The view on the ocean is magnificent! This year we tried some of the trails and we love the Sandy Cruz Trail. Thank you for enabling us to stay in this paradise for three weeks. So long and thanks for all the fun.

Thank you, The Jenka family “from Prague”

Wow! We can’t believe our eyes here in Saba. We never expected to see something like this in the Caribbean! We fell in love with Saba and your home. What a great place to stay. We enjoyed every minute of it and know we will return again.

Thank you very much, Elisa and Tom

Kathy and Bill, We came from snowy, cold Michigan on our first trip to the Caribbean. What a wonderful place to welcome in the New Year! The New Year’s Eve dinner at Queen’s Garden was truly spectacular. Sea Saba made the scuba diving everything “the boys” were hoping for. The “girls” enjoyed a morning making beads with Jobean and we have a beautiful group of necklaces to keep as mementos. Best of all was the relaxing and being together as a family in your beautiful cottage. The pool, the views – it is all just lovely! Thank you for sharing it with us.

The Jenka family

Our family is one that likes to travel a lot, much to he disliking of our schoolteachers. We have been all over the world and we always tried a new place. That era has come to an end when we discovered the Carolina Cottage. We unanimously agreed that we have found the perfect place that can make any vacation into a dream.

Thank you, The Jenka family

Thank you very much for sharing with us this wonderful villa. We really enjoy everything here – the big balcony, the pool, your awesome view – to name a few. We were not able to see Mt. Scenery because of the weather (too cloudy), but since we have a wonderful villa on this small and interesting island of Saba we can say that this is one of the best vacations we have ever had. Leonardo is very friendly and helpful to us. We will definitely recommend the Carolina Cottage and are planning to come back. Until then…

I write this while swinging in the hammock!! What a great stay in Saba! Favorite dive sites: Man of War Shoals, Tent Wall, Tent Reef Red, Third Encounter (nurse and reef sharks, turtles, rays, lobsters, spotted drum, and the shape of the volcanic reef) – all were great!! Be sure to read the “Saban Cottages and Folk Remedies”, and “Eye on St. Marteen, Statia and Saba”. The history of what it took to live on this island, build roads, and build the airport is really fantastic. Enjoyed the tide pool below the airport – make sure you check out both the left and right sides.

P.S. Thanks for having frosted mugs in the freezer and beer in the fridge. The beds and towels were really comfortable!!

Check out the Basilica paintings at the Sacred Heart Church in the Bottom – the prettiest I’ve seen and incorporates the whole island. Helen Cornet painted it.

“Carolina Cottage is where dreams really do come true!” As I sit here on the terrace this morning recollecting our stay on Saba, we will always cherish the memory of the hospitality of the Sabans, great food, and the scenery of the “unspoiled island”. Our own chef, Maricelli came to the cottage and prepared a delicious dinner of grouper and lobster!!! The fish sandwich at Scout’s Place was a favorite for lunch and the mango smoothie at the Snack Shop was incredible. Hiking the Sandy Cruz Trail prepared us for Mt. Scenery…a challenge but we made it to the top. The view from your pool at dusk is aawesome!!! All in all a wonderful stay and we are looking forward to returning again soon.

Streeter Family: Virginia, Walter, Tom and Allyn

Charmed by Saba and the locals. Dawn II made for an interesting trip. Leopoldo was diligent in his efforts to make our stay comfortable. Driving in Saba is only for the hearty – passengers hold on and don’t look down. Snorkeling was grand with Sea Saba. Enjoy the slide show at Rainforest Restaurant – history of Saba and Marine life. Favorite dining was Queen’s Garden, Eden’s and In to Deep. Best Dining at the Carolina Cottage was with Chef Joani. Mt. Scenery hiking views best on the way down although pale in comparison to the views from the pool deck of the Carolina Cottage!!!

We were thrilled to escape the New York City rush at Carolina Cottage. Favorite memories included Wednesday night at the Rainforest Restaurant, Saban lobster at the Queen's Garden Resort, our hike to the Sulphur Mine, shopping at the Big Rock market, and Helen Cornet's artwork. Many thanks to the Batchelors for their hospitality!

We had a fabulous week! Everything from the music to the dcor was quite tasteful. The pool was the BEST! Our only advice - don't hike up Mt. Scenery in flip-flops! Next time we won't travel so lightly. Our stay was so good we trust our next visit will be as property owners.

Thank you very much for opening your house up for us. The place is fabulous and the house is done up so well. Leonardo was very helpful and does a great job at making you feel right at home. Mysterious how that cloud always hangs right over the mountain & makes a great sun umbrella to protect our skin. Many joys with your home away from home!

Thank-you for providing such a perfect oasis of calm and relaxation! We have reveled in every delicious moment of being here on Saba. We had come dangerously close to forgetting how magnificent the stars are at night, how blissful an 82 degree day with a breeze is and what it feels like to be surrounded by nature at her finest. But a week at Carolina Cottage has reminded us of that and more - thank you!!! We also leave with a renewed faith in the kindness of strangers. From Leonardo and Gloria to the many local characters we met out and about on Saba, we were continuously struck by how sincerely kind and interested everyone was in getting to know us or helping us in some small way. A few favorites I have to mention: Sunset amid the crashing surf at Well's Bay, the hike to Mt. Scenery (worth every drop of sweat), scallops at Queen's Garden, sunset with a cocktail at Shearwater, meeting half the island at Sabaoke (cheesy of course, but it must be done), and perhaps my favorite culinary experience of the week - homemade passion fruit ice cream at the Ecolodge (Oh, my!!!). My heart literally breaks to leave this place but I know we will return. You have a special home on a very special island thank you for sharing it with us.

Thank you for sharing your paradise home with us. We had a wonderful time diving, hiking, exploring, and just relaxing in your beautiful home. Leonardo and Gloria were wonderful and helped us to quickly feel right at home. This island is truly a gem and we are already talking about coming back. The views from your patio are probably the best anywhere on the island. We really enjoyed lounging by the pool and napping in the hammock. Thanks again for your hospitality and for introducing us to Saba!!!

Our favorite top recommendations: 1) Cooking class at Queens Garden with Chef Keith, 2) Best meal was dinner at the Ecolodge (Rainforest Restaurant), 3) Best hike was the Bottom Mt. Trail to Windwardside, 4) The rite of passage hike up Mt. Scenery

These were the "icing", but the cake was coming back to the Carolina Cottage to sit by the pool and savor that view!!! The Saban people could not be more hospitable although their idea of a "road" was our idea of a Disney Rollercoaster. Could not ask for a better Caribbean Getaway!
